Max Verstappen Responds To “Hypocritical” Critics

Red Bull Racing’s breach of the cost cap has been the talk of the town in the world of Formula 1 for quite some time now. The allegations have raised questions about the legitimacy of Max Verstappen’s maiden championship win last year. The Dutchman has now spoken out against his critics, labeling them as hypocritical and suggesting that the team’s focus is on their job.

Speaking to the media in the United States, Verstappen began by addressing the ongoing period of uncertainty surrounding the allegations. “I think we were very clear on what was correct, so that’s why it’s still ongoing. At the end of the day, it’s still not my job, it’s between the team and the FIA,” he said.

The 24-year-old then went on to address the criticism he and his team have faced in recent months. “I think it’s mainly because we’ve been doing well,” Verstappen said. “They were trying to slow us down in any way possible, but at the end of the day, that’s how F1 works as well.”

Verstappen is aware of the pressures of being at the top of the game and is not fazed by the criticism. “Everyone is, at the end of the day, hypocritical. I am fine with that. We just have to focus on our job,” he said.

Red Bull’s breach of the cost cap is a serious matter that has raised concerns about the fairness of the competition. The team has already been fined. The allegations have also raised questions about Verstappen’s championship win last year, but the driver remains confident that he and his team have done nothing wrong.
